Bessacarr Caravan spare wheel problem

Has anyone had problems with the spare wheel supplied with the Bessacarr Cameo 495 SL two-berth caravan?
I recently discovered in spectacular fashion that the original spare supplied with our brand new van purchased in 2006 does not fit properly because the bolts supplied are too long to allow the spare wheel to be fully tightened. So when I changed a blown-out tyre with the spare it subsequently sheared off the bolts as we were travelling home!
