I heard that it's free yet some sites ask for a "Processing fee" Can anyone tell me where to get it free and what criteria one must fulfil to qualify, also what are the benefits?

The EHIC card is valid in lanzarote, but doe'snt cover pre-existing medical conditions,so extra medical insurance is needed.
