I have a dim memory of watching a chess programme as a boy in the 1960's. It involved showing famous past games with a commentary and the pieces moved 'on their own' (probably magnets underneath or something similar). When a piece was captured, two stretcher bearers would come onto the board and carry the 'dead' piece off. Also I think that at the end of the game the losing king would fall over. I don't know if it continued after I used to watch it. has anyone any ideas or info such as name of programme, etc?

Yes, I vaguely remember a chess program(in black & white I believe) being on TV when I was very young back in the late '70's/early '80's. I can't remember the name, probably "Master Chess" or "Checkmate" I guess. I'll try to look into it.
