Probably a combination of my awe of you (you helped me with my final letter in the Mephisto this week, and many a letter over the past umpteen years!), and my listening to John Graham ('Auricaria') on Radio 4's "Desert Island Discs" this week!

This is actually a very bad tribute to K., because I will never make a clue-setter unless I try to compose a clue without having had a glass of wine!
Okay, so clue is now: 'Meekest king no *king good for me!'.1,6.1. (Though I never met an asterisk in a clue before, even in Private Eye!).

I enjoy helping where I can and it is gratifying to know that my assistance is appreciated.
Like you I listened to Araucaria on Desert Island Discs and was surprised by his choice of a Procol Harum record and his favourite of all the crossword clues he'd set.

Regarding your cryptic clue, I'm afraid that my answer would be censored by the answerbank filters so I better not post my solution!
