Easiest way (IMHO)
DON'T drag the clip to the timeline
Click on the clip so that it appears in the preview window
Drag the slider on the preview to approximately where you want to begin
Use the Next- and Previous- frame buttons to get to precisely where you want to begin.
Click the splitter button (second from eight on preview window)
This will give you two clips, of which the second now appears in the preview window.
Repeat the process of splitting, but this time at the end of the section that you want.
This will give you three clips, of which the second is the one that you want.
Drag that second clip down to the timeline.
Go to Finish movie, and save the result in the format that you want it (eg, AVI, DC, DVD, etc).
**second from Right!
