I know how frustrating it can be to be stuck for a couple of answers after slogging away at a crossword. But can anyone explain what possible satisfaction anyone can get from asking for and being fed all the answers and then just filling in the grid?

I think we some times need a bit of patience with some questioners. My daughter has learning difficulties but still likes to try crosswords. I think Pinky has tried re her answer to the Messiah question is it Moses.

Here is a good example aked a little earlier by WILTAND22;

8d Autonomous Russian republic, Capital Grozny (8)
surely it would have been easier to type Grozny into GOOGLE especially with it's predictivity the answer would have come up by typing GROZ...
I used to answer a lot on Q&P and only answer now for fun and to pass the time if I'm bored .I shouldn't really 'cos it's just laziness when people can't be bothered to use a dictionary .

I do mainly cryptics and I can't see what's wrong for asking for help with these and asking for an explanation on wordplay etc .

A good cryptic crossword is a delight and for people starting out with them I'm only too pleased to help anyone having tussled with them myself for donkeys years .

However some put shopping lists up for really,really , easy questions that can be Googled or found via a dictionary or wordfinder and then, what annoys me most of all is that they never thank anyone !
shaneystar, i think that was the point, three threads, one c/w all same person. I always grateful if someone helps me out with one or two, not do the whole thing.
I do a crossword from the newspaper every day. sometimes I can sail through it, other days I can get really stuck . But I use a Thesaurus, which gives an alternative answer to the question, rather than an explanation. If that doesn't work, then I google and can always finish the crossword. its good to get the old grey matter working!!!!
I disagree niles - I rarely do prize crosswords, it's often the crosswords in the local paper which stump me, usually the cryptics. We're not all in it for the money.
To all of you who wrote about cheating, greed and laziness think again. For me its the pleasure of completing a crossword. I never send it in to be judged and I am always using 'my brain' as I like to call my limited reference books. I do use the internet on odd occasions. I'm an avid MOS prize crossword doer. I never finish it till the following Saturday if then. I await the answers on sunday with great anticipation. I hope vallaw the broadens your understanding a little more.
