I'm looking for the name of a book. Its a true account of 3 climbers, in switzerland i think but not sure. They fall and two have to.cut the one loose and leave him hanging whilst they went for help, the rescue attempt fails and their friend dies

I think the book is The White Spider by Heinrich Harrer.
