Should my central heating pump get very hot, or is it on the way out?

If it is hotter than usual then it may be approaching failure. If you don't know how hot it usually gets then don't forget that the heat from the circulating water will travel into the casing and it will certainly feel warm if not hot. There are some minor differences from model to model, but have a feel of someone else's pump after half an hour or more of running.
All pumps get Hot i would not worry too much . If it starts squeeling , grinding, whining or grating then worry.
I agree with gasman. Bearing in mind that the central heating water itself gets hot, then all the auxillary components in contact with the hot water will get hot.. if it ai'nt broke, then leave it alone
