the Birmingham university Kestrel family are back... looks like only two juveniles with them but showing well over the playing fields as the parents teach the young ones to hunt they successfully reared 3 last year... they are absolutely fearless and fly right bythe windows. No sign of Peregrines though they have nested in the uni clock tower at least 3 of the last 5 years...but the pigeon population doesn't seem so high this year so that might be why.

Nice to see the Raptors at close quarters Rowan, the Kestrel is a nice Bird. Seeing the Peregrines will be good too as they must be around somewhere with all this food available !
Lovely birds, we get quite a few round here. Saw one today perched on a telegraph pole, no doubt looking for his next meal.
On the reclaimed pit tipwhere I usually walk Max we often have Kestrels and I often take the binoculars down and spend some time watching them. I love the way they just seem to hang in the sky untill their prey makes a mistake then wham down they go and diners in their talons
