Has anyone heard about the number of fake £1 coins in circulation ???

It's LOADS, apparently.

I've got three here, which are definitely fakes.

One has writing round the edges which is totally different from normal.

One has NO writing round the edges! and no "lip" around the edge of the faces.

One has writing that looks odd, and the words "One Pound" have rubbed off altogether.

Well, I might be able to eBay them !
Yep, there are loads about. Clink them together with other pound coins and you can easily hear the difference in sound.

Crikey, chuck ... I hadn't tried that !

I wonder if they are worth any more than £1 ?
It how I used to spot them in the pub, they sound totally different when you throw them in the till.
If you had another 3 I could tell you my six quid joke
Granted it wasn't a very effective technique if there was a band on in the pub :)
Take them to Poundland, as they usually accept them along with other pound coins. Apparently 1 in 200 of these is a fake.

What type of currency does a frog use?

Pond coins!

Well, I'm still going to spend them, obviously.

I'm just surprised at what poor quality they are.

I mean ... they are totally obvious fakes.
Oh dear I nearly said a franc.
I used to chuck the pound coins from my pocket into a tin and save them.
After a couple of years , I had £700 worth ...then saw the news about the fakes....so quickly bagged them up and took them to the local HSBC , who simply weigh them and gave me £700 in £20 notes for them.
I never bothered checking them for fakes. Figured I would would find loads and get annoyed.
