Hi, are you saying he has stripped the innards of the locking barrel? or if it's only the locking barrel itself, it's held in place by a U spacer from inside the boot + the links, if the innards has been disturbed either try a locksmith, if you take it back to the dealer I doubt they will repair it but advise you to bye a replacement & that will not be cheap.
There is a barrel, cylinder, a set of tumblers or discs (depending on lock type) which are coded (possibly numbered on them) and if tumblers .. minature springs loading them inside the cylinder.
If the tumblers come out of the cylinder .. or the discs get mixed up, you will have lost the lock coding.
With experience, you can 'read' the tumblers and assemble so the cylinder with key inserted will rotate in the barrel. Then it will operate correctly.
Failing that, order a new barrel/cylinder assy against the manufacturers VIN.
Try to avoid a barrel and key as you will then have an extra key!
Repair kits are usually available. This usually consists of tumblers, springs and clips to enable a rebuild of the barrel assy.
