Transfer or Taxi?

In the past, whenever we've been abroad, transfers have always been included in the price. This time I've booked a holiday and the transfers are optional at a cost of 110.

We'll be travelling from Palma airport to Cala d'Or. I really do fancy the taxi idea as I think it might be quicker and easier.

Does anyone have any idea how much a taxi will cost, and whether it'll be worth the hassle?

There's no "hassle" in finding a taxi at the airport. Cala D'Or is a 90 minute drive from the airport (source: http://www.majorca-mallorca.co.uk/cala_dor.htm ). You can go prepared by booking a ride in advance with http://www.majorca-airport-transfers.com (estimated fare for two people to Cala D'Or - 90 Euros) or... have you considered renting a car? Mallorca is a lovely island to explore, and a rented car gives you so much freedom.
I dont know about cheaper. But I have always found that taxis are always readily available and much quicker and less hassle. No waiting at the airport for other people to collect their luggage or whoi have wandered off shopping or just got lost. Also no wasted driving around stopping at other resorts before you get to yours. I would contact your resort/hotel and ask them how much you would expect to pay or whether they can arrange one for you as I have often found that they can. At least that way you know how much you should be paying.
