// Government plans to cut net migration to the "tens of thousands" by 2015 are likely to fail, a report has found.

Prime Minister David Cameron and Home Secretary Theresa May have pledged to reduce net migration from the current 242,000 to less than 100,000 people.

But immigration system reforms will leave net migration at about 165,000 by 2015, according to analysis by Oxford University's Migration Observatory.

Dr Scott Blinder, senior researcher at the observatory, said: "The government's current policies only look likely to reduce net migration by about 75,000 at best.//

Maybe not, but surely the situation is out of hand, and that someone has to try and come up with a workable solution.
The only immigration they can reduce are the ones trying to come in through the proper channels and are skilled. These will then probably come in illegally and end up staying here anyway!
perhaps they can put them in the Highlands, lots of room up there....
I always feel let down by whatever government is in. None of them keep their promises.
At least it is going in the right direction. If Labour had got in it would probably be at 340,000.

The problem is the bleeding heart liberals and the HRA. Cameron needs to deal with both of these first then the immigrant situation will sort itself out.
apart from a handful of exceptional and rare qualifications a few may have, i fail to see why we need any more immigrants whatsoever.

Why are we unable to train our own people ?

A ridiculous situation that has been encouraged and allowed by successive governments , who for the most part seem to hate the fact this is a white northern european country and seem hellbent on destroying our identity and cultural heritage.
Is it embarassment , what is their problem with it ?

sickening

We all knoe Labour failed us. And justly they got ejected from power for it.

But the coalition is also failing us. They promised huge reductions, they had 13 years to work out their plans and how to implement them, and a year later their promises are in tatters.

// Last year some 242,000 more people moved to the UK than left, after numbers leapt by around 45 per cent in just a year.

David Cameron has pledged to cut net immigration to the “tens of thousands” but the latest official figures show an upward trend in continuing instead.

And the rise has been partly driven by a sharp increase in the number of Eastern Europeans returning to the UK to look for work – a trend the Government’s recently imposed immigration cap cannot alter.

It has also been driven up by a 20 per cent fall in people emigrating, amid reports that many are put off by a rising cost of living abroad. //

Just blaming the last lot for the next 4 years is not going to reduce these numbers.
I wonder if we could seek independence, then maybe we could get England back for the English.

After all isn't that how the colonial countries got rid of us out of their countries?
Would that be the English............or just the White English ?
Gromit, how did they have 13 years to work this out. Its a coalition, not a Tory party, they have had to compromise on just about every issue, because the Lib Dems have their views, agendas, and you can see that's been a disaster, because they are infighting on everything, and besides how was Cameron going to know he would be PM 13 years ago, or that we would end up in the mess we are in. The coalition have had to pick up the tab for endless spending, and we are as much to blame for not saving for that rainy day, who plundered the private pensions, who sold off the gold reserves for a song, and who gave the banks leeway to behave as they have, well it wasn't the people trying, perhaps not succeeding as yet in government now. Wasn't it Liam Byrne who left a note saying ha the kittys empty, or some such nonsense.

Hurrah! The wisdom of Idi Amin lives on!
Isn't it amazing that we got kicked out of all these countries, fair enough, yet many still want to come here, do you think they are getting their own back.
Why they should base immigration on net figures is totally baffling. You have only to watch programs on TV where families have made the plunge and settled in Australia or New Zealand. These are highly skilled individuals with much of their lives in front of them. If they did not have the skills those countries would not accept them.

Od the inward migration there may be a few with skills to match but only yesterday it was reported that immigrants take up to 90% of British jobs on offer. These are mostly jobs that the British do not want so the level of skills needed speaks for itself.
