space oddity--- david bowie
What about Imagine (John Lennon)? - It's an easy song to sing and play on the piano.

The message it gives is of course still relevent 30 or so years after it was composed.

California Dreaming?
Day is done---- Nick drake.

What Katie did - The Libertines.  East tune with a good singalong and the kids will love it!

how about teenage kicks by the undertones
New Radicals - You Get What You Give.  Fairly simple chords and cracking tune!

Prince Charming - Adam and the Ants

School's Out - Alice Cooper

Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Mustang Sally - Wilson Pickett et al
Ace of Spades - Motorhead
Ok, how old are the students and what sort of song are you looking for?  Is it for a christmas concert?

They are 16+. It is for them to work on an interesting version, musically speaking.
Has to be Stairway to Heaven - cover it any way you like - Rolf Harris did
Pink Floyd, another brick in the wall
Sorry - I've already had my say, but:  Oasis, either Whatever or The Masterplan.  Two epic masterpieces and I bet you could use every student on a different instrument - brass, strings, piano, guitars...
