How does that work? Aren't you living with someone who you feel is essentially delusional, and doesn't that put a strain on things?

LOL tweaker - I'd need to wake up first!
I wish people wouldn't mention Oedipus. Way back in 1966 one of the set texts for my Greek A level was Oedipus Tyrannus by Sophocles. I spent 9 months trying to decipher it with limited success and even now occasionally break into a cold sweat thinking about it. " O, children, born of Cadmus' royal line..."
Like a vegitarian being married to a carnivore, or a tory supporter being married to a socialist! I fall into the latter catagory and we've been happily married for over 40 years.
mike1111,

Don't worry I'm not going to mention him again. I've said all I need.

boxtops,

A 100 cups of coffee should do the trick. We could come up with all sorts of illogical crap that at the time would make sense. Hell, one could read the thread and right a book about what's on it!
mike11111, I don't think there's ever been anyone as insufferable as you on Ab - and I say that with a smile, not a scowl. The self-satisfaction needed to say that you will pray for the rational people here or ask your god to forgive them is truly bemusing. But keep it up; it's fun and all part of life's rich pageant.

You only need to read Freud's book on Dreams to realise what a nutter he was (and how only one letter separates his name from the truth about him). Alas, his own invention of psychanalysis wouldn't have helped him since that is as much quackery as homepathy and the rest.
pretty I don't doubt your sincerity but // I chose to send them to catholic school, quite simply because the Catholic schools in our area are outstanding. // I have heard that same excuse used whenever RC schools are involved.
It happened to an atheist friend of mine who admitted the real reason was the RC priest had put pressure on his wife.
On another occasion a Cof E friend of mine was engaged to a RC and was told by her priest that if he didn't marry in a RC church and bring up any children as RCs the children would be considered illigitimate in the eyes of the chuch.
Further to the above post I would put money on it that when an engaged couple are of different religeons they marry in the most ritualistic dominering one, which among Christians almost invariably means RC .
I have an Irish friend who was engaged to a Muslim and he was so threatened by his priest that he rebelled and became a Muslim himself but even now he gets letters in effect saying he is living in sin. In his case he had been treated badly by nuns when he was a child so maybe it was easier to finally rebel.
I thought the RC church had considerably softened their stance on the issue of mixed marriages.
I don't know but two of the examples I gave are quite recent and the other one was 10 years ago.
I can honestly say no pressure was put on us by the priests at any point. The priest who married us was a Father Ted type of character and we ended up getting drunk when we went to see him to book the wedding. This was 10 years ago.
I think you have made my point you got married in a RC church despite the fact you are an atheist. I wonder if he would have been a Father Ted had you told him you wanted a registry office wedding.
.
I was a teacher and I have observed RC teaching and I found religion was introduced subtly into every lesson , even in PE and games. Expressions like " Come on children let's use the muscles given to us by the Lord God. " Sounds innocent in isolation but its the steady drip drip of indoctrination.
We went to see the priest after deciding to get married in the RC church. There was no pressure from the priest or anyone else.
No there wouldn't be, they had already won . Your OH was already in the fold and you had given in to his beliefs . They had your OH and secured any children to their faith.
No wonder Father Ted got drunk -- the spoils of the victor.
Yes, i was converted right from day one ,apart from the fact i don't believe in God.
