When was the Philips Lighting factory located in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland built? I Have tried searching on the net for hours but I cannot get information on the history of Philips Lighting Hamilton factory

Does anyone know where I can get more information on Philips lighting hamilton? Must be this factory in particular, not the general history of the company- The philips website supplies all the information I need for the history of the company, but I want to know the history of this site, as I have heard that it brought significant jobs to Scotland?

Maybe you could call the factory and ask? Someone there might know. (01 698 282 111).
My dad worked there and i remember my mum having a commemorative coin for the 25th anniversary of the company in 1978 or 1977. Not sure if this was for the company as a whole or just the Hamilton sight. I'll ask my mum for you, she also worked there for a short while. (most people of acertain age in hamilton did!!)The factory used to be huge, spanning the two sides of the Wellhall Road, most of the plot has been sold now and has houses and Aldi now. What is it your looking to know JP?

Thanks albalass, just general background information;
I used to work for philips lighting in hamilton for a summer job a few years ago, and they told us this information; and now I have an interview for philips on Thursday, a full time position, and I thought it might be impressive to have some knowledge of the factory since I worked in it.
I know the building layouts etc just some extra background stuff.

Thanks again
I spoke to my mum who's going to ask about for some info for you. She did say that the factory used to make shavers as well and the factory was hugley reduced when that work was moved to Dijon and Poland. When is your interview?

Hi JP, sorry I haven't replied sooner. My dad actually died a few weeks ago and my mum has had a bad day today and I didn't want to bring up Philips to be honest as he worked there for 30 years. I hope you do really well in your interview, as i'm sure you will. I'm sorry I couldn't be more help xx

Hi there. Apparently, the foundation stone of the Hamitlon site was laid in 1947, although technically there was work ongoing in the preceding two years. Philips officially celebrated 60 years on-site with a Civic reception with the First Minister of Scotland in June 2007.

Hope this helps.
