Ongoing headgasket problem

I've been struggling trying to deal with the above and have a question for those in the know.
My 1992 Merc 190e (1.8) blew its headgasket a few months ago and I've had the thing apart and can now see the damage. The surface of the head has two nasty pits in it, I've been advised that the pits can easily be welded up and the head skimmed but was wondering what is the best choice: have the pits welded and the head skimmed (which means dismantling all the valves etc) or seek out a second hand head with all its valves already there. I guess the costs are similar.

The way I would go with this Answer is to get a 2nd head, I've seen heads getting welded / skimmed replaced with all the new gaskets etc only to find a few months down the line the car begins to overheat, is it worth it? I doubt it + the time / cost. check out EBay.
