Had it installed for £10 per month last year. Just stopped paying for Sky till football starts again....PROBLEM..Recorder will not record ANYTHING....Looks like if I want to record anything it will cost me £10 per month!!! Is there any other HD recorder that will record, say, Freesat AND Sky, or have they got it all sewn up---no pay, no get?

You've answered your own question: "no pay, no get". (Sky's recording facility is part of their subscription service).

To record Freesat, you'll need something like this:

You pay an extra £10 per month .. for HD.
If you have a Sky HD recorder you can record any of them (or record any SD stuff)
If you stop paying Sky .. then you will not be able to record with them .. recordable function comes with the subs.
You can record Freeview HD with something like a Humax HD PVR.
You can't record HD Sky for HD playback 'off-air' with anything but a Sky box.
