Please has any one a fool proof recipe? My husband has just thrown my last attempt out to the birds and even they don't seem interested! The redcipes I have from the net use an awful lot of fat in weight compared to the sugar substitute so the sponge is very heavy.
Would be very grateful for any advice. Many thanks

Always embarrassing when the birds don't want it! That happened to my sister when we were young and my dad never let her forget! What are you using as a sugar substitute? I've a recipe using honey...5oz butter/margarine,3 tbsn honey,3 large eggs and 5oz SR Flour. Melt the honey and butter in a pan over a low heat and pour into the sieved flour, beat the eggs and add to the mixture.Spoon into an 18cm tin and bake for 20 mins at 180 until a skewer comes out clean.Fill with sugar free strawberry jam and whipped cream Hope that sounds like what you're looking for!
Can I ask why sugar free?...also of course honey has sugar in it
You could try one of the fat free recipe and subsitute the sugar for the non-sugar sweetner. I've not tried it with sugar subsitute but have used the fat free recipes and they are are fine. Can't see why they wouldn't work with the sugar subsitute.
Here is one recipe - just subsitute the sugar for canderal or something similar.

Here is a sponge made with Splenda that may be suitable.

Sorry to everyone for late reply.Grandson and wife turned up with baby so I'm afraid EVERYTHING has to stop.Husband is sugar free just one step away from diabetes and I thank you barb1314 but woofgang is right I'm afraid, honey is a no go.Thank you JimJools, but its because of the weight of substitute sugar not being the same as the fat that the sponge doesn't come out right.Looks as though the recipe you've given pastafreak will solve the problem.Thank you very much. The splenda is bulked up with other things to equal the weight.Shall try it tomorrow.Thank you all for your interest
Let us know how it comes out...

Will do.Just checked to make sure I've got all the ingredients and I have.So its all set for the morning.Fingers crossed
Have you looked on the British diabetic society website? They recommend a healthy general diet and suggest that you need to control and not eliminate sugar. Some of Their cake recipes actually have sugar in and some are made with splenda.
I apologise and know that honey has sugar in it but the recipe is from a sugar-free recipe book. I wasn't sure about the OP's reason for asking :) Sorry this recipe isn't suitable.
