and he said we'd go to Coombe Abbey, the place sophie_1003 and a couple of other people suggested for a lovely day out. So I asked the major and the first thing he said was,
'Is Leah coming?' - I told him I hadn't asked her yet, but I was going to.
He said yes, he would love to come, especially if Leah was going too. I phoned Leah and the first thing she asked was
'Is the major coming?' - I told her he was, and she said,
'Oh then yes please, we had such a lovely day last time, and such a lovely picnic!"
He's got a real twinkle in his eye our major has!!

Nice.
Who's the major. And who is Leah? This would make more sense to me if I knew who these people are. ;-)

The major is my old neighbour who lost his wife a few years back, and Leah is the lady that moved out of our road to go into a residential home a couple of months ago as she's going blind - she was the lady I had Kiltie my little Westie off.
I wondered the same as sallabanans. So it seems they are keen on each other? Why don't they swap numbers? It would save you running messages :-)
Ooh - a little matchmaking probably?! Bless them, we all need a little romance, whatever our age.
its really nice if they are vboth excited about the outing. its nice of you and hubby to include them.

They are both such sweeties! It's like being in a different era, when you're with them, a genteel, kinder more caring time, where there's no swearing, manners are used and gentlemen are just that, holding open doors, pushing your chair in ...lovely! Don't get me wrong, my hubby is a gentleman, but to see these two is just lovely!!
Ooh - how lovely. Perhaps you couls see if there is anything like a tea dance in your area tha he could invite her to.
