Hiya.. since about 6am this morning, there's been a cat outside our house, it seems to be ok, scruffy looking, but fairly well fed by the look of things. We've never seen it before, and it doesn't belong to any of our neighbours, well the thing is it keeps wailing, and wandering around, but we can't get near it to catch it or see up close if its injured! Now were not sure what to do.. should we feed it..or just let it do its own thing! I would hate to think its hungry etc... but I dont want to encouage it if it belongs to someone! Funnily enough we have to cats, that have been outside while were trying to get near it..and they don't seem in the slightest bit worried about another cat being around, normally the'd both go nuts at the sight of another cat!! Any idea's anyone? Ta everso..Mrs Crisper xx

Do you live in the same area as boxtops, see post further down. She's lost her cat.
put some feed near your house to tempt it in, then you can advertise for its owner who will be distressed if its lost.
boxtops' cat looks like this:

Where do you live, MrsCrisper?

Do put down a little food, and more importantly, water - I am hoping that someone is doing this for my missing cat.
A stray cat is more likely to go to a house with other cats, in the hope of finding a nice person and some spare food.
See if you can gain its confidence and perhaps be able to get it to stay in your garden (is there a shed?), then you can call the local vet and/or pet rescue and see if a cat fitting this description has been reported. Even if he doesn't stay in your garden, someone (like me) will be glad to know of a sighting even if you can't catch him.
PS Mrs C - if it's a tabby and you are local to me, it could be mine....
i wish she would hurry up and reply, keeping my fingers crossed.
I suspect she's a long way away, Kate - it's a very long shot!
contact your nearest Cat Rescue group, google Cat rescue and your town, if the cat is chipped they will trace the owner, if it isn't, any enquiry by the owner looking for the cat should get re-directed to the cat rescue by vets/rspca/police/local dog warden
Good advice dotty, that's where I reported Rover being missing, plus I've notified all the local vets as they too have chip readers.
Unfortunately snooping about Mrs Crisper's previous posts it seems she was looking for a hol flying from Bristol or Exeter so sadly doesn't suggest she's your area boxy.
Thanks prudie - worth a try, though, even if another missing cat gets reunited with its owners.
(I didn't think to do that myself, well snooped!)

Thanks for all your replies... Sorry boxtops this puss is black and white.. good luck with finding yours though..Prudie's right..were in somerset... and I've just put some food and water out for the stray.... and have e-mailed the local rescue centre's... most are only open for emergencies on Sunday... so I'll keep an eye on it til tomorrow.. then I'll try and get something sorted!! xx
Thanks MrsC - worth a try! - but good to know that another lost moggie is being looked after. I hope you can track down his folks.
I had a cat like hat hanging around, eating the out of date sausages I threw out. Turns out she is owned by someone over the road who feeds her well, she just looks scruffy. So do I some mornings despite best efforts.
