Abebooks deal in older and deleted books. I havn't read it but saw the television production with Richard Briers and it was enchanting! Good luck in finding the book!

Thankyou. Found books from a few pounds to £125.
Gasp! That's extortionate. It must be one hell of a book!
Hell of a book? Naw - more like dealers chancing their luck! You'll see quite a bit of this on AbeBooks
Yes, it's possibly my all time favourite book. Copies do go for more than average as it's one of those books that those who have lost their treasured copies HAVE to replace. I keep recommending it, but it's a hard sell from the synopsis.

@ Sir Alec, it is indeed one hell of a book - one of the few books I have read that really changed the way I look at things. The TV production was not a patch on the book (though probably seems better if you haven't read the novel) and misses out a huge chunk of the story to squeeze it down to suitable length. A mini-series would be a much better proposition.

@DaisyNonna, it does turn up in second hand/charity shops regularly.

Thanks LeMarchand. Will keep looking. Did not see TV production.
@DaisyNonna. The British Heart Foundation in Fareham has one for £1.50. 51 West Street, Fareham, Hampshire, PO16 0AT 01329 826025. There's some for a few quid on eBay, too.
fab book - many years since I read it, but ould maybe try and get another copy myself now that you have mentioned it!
sounds very familiar but i can't remember what it's about, anyone give me a brief run-down of it?
just googled it, it wasn't the one i was thinking of.
It's a superbly moving and spiritual book, author William Horwood. It's about cerebral palsy, abandonment, cruelty, love, you name it. I've read it twice now and unfortunately lent it to a friend. It made a huge impression on me first time round and I would recommend it to anyone, particularly to anyone with a friend or relative suffering from this cruel illness.

Thanks LeMarchand. Have passed on info to my friend who wants to buy the book.
I agree a totally amazing book...even though i haven't read it for years I won't part with my copy.
