Anyone been to Turkey?
I have a Turkish Lira note and need to know how much its worth in British pounds. The value on it is 250000.The first 3 digits are in blue, the last three in purple. I have looked on currency converter sites but keep getting different amounts.
TIA.

depends whether it is old lira or new lira - if it's new lira which sounds unlikely, its worth about £98000 if old, it's virtually worth less - 20p maybe Which sounds more likely to you bearing in mind how you came by it.
I don't know for sure btw - we were in Turkey last year, but I can never remember the value of the notes or what they look like when I get back.

Thanks Annie, lovely to 'see' you.
How do i know if its old or new?
Hi hau kola - not a clue really other than if it was in a drawer gathering dust then I would guess old - if it was dropped in your palm by passing turkish royalty then I would guess new! I am sure that there may be images somewhere of what the notes look like - i'll see if I can find anything.

I find the above useful for currancy things.

Hmm typical, a thread that promises a quicky, and it turns out to be just another question :-(
this seems to be what the old note looked like:

Oh I so hate typos ! They drive me mad especially when one sees it just after the submit click

right looks like the conversion between old and new was 1000000 old Lira = 1 new Lira - with that exchange then I am pretty sure that they would not make a 250000 new lira note so my guess is that its worthless. Sorry :o(

Hope you are well otherwise though :o)

"It's not that the old pre-2005 Turkish Lira and 2005-to-2008 New Turkish Lira notes are valueless. Rather, they're inconvenient: they may be exchanged for the current notes only at Turkish Central Bank (TC Merkez Bankası) offices or, in the absence of a Central Bank office, at a TC Ziraat Bankası office, until December 31, 2016."

Hmmm or you could sell it at an internet auction to a collector.
Unless a collector was interested which I doubt given that the note is not very old, then it is worth less than 10p converted but you would have charges to pay and you'd probably have to travel to turkey to convert it - so I would say on the face of it that it is worthless unless it has sentimental value.......or you could try ebay!

Hiya JJ, hope you're well.
Thanks guys....i guessed it was next to worthless as it was left lying around in the office at work but as my daughter is off to Turkey next week i'd see how much its worth.
Can only back up what others say, because a few years ago when I worked for a membership organisation we got a 100,000 Lira note. It wasn't clear what the person wanted, so I rang a bank to see what it was worth - could we send an info pack?
Inevitably a bank asks whether one's buying or selling. In the end I established it was worth about a penny.
