Before my next door neighbour had broadband, I gave her a WEP password that I got from the helpline run by the manufacturers of the wireless router I have.

I now want to change my WEP password so that's she's not using my connection any more because now she doesn't need to.

Do I have to phone the manufacturers helpline again?

You can change the password by accessing your router's settings. To do so you simply need to type the relevant IP address into your browser's address bar. For example, if you've got a Belkin router, typing '192.168.2.1' and clicking 'Go' will get into your router's settings.

For other routers, Google 'xxxxxx ip address' (replacing 'xxxxx' with the make of your router) or simply ask here.

As well as putting the web address of the router you will also need to "logon" to the router with a userid and password.

Most companies have a default userid and password for their router so you can log on as that (if you have not changed it).

THEN once you are logged on you can change your password.

You could also change your broadcast name as well as your password, then both are new.

When you then reconnect with your laptop you will have to find the new broadcast name and enter the new pasword.

Thank you both.

It is indeed a Belkin router.

I'll give this a try.

Cheers!
You should be using WPA2 as your router security WEP is no longer a safe one to have

What's WPA2?
WPA2 is the latest security program for WIFI it is almost impossible to crack where as WEP is the easiest one and is now outdated. You should have it as an option when you log on to your router and set up your security SSID and your password from the default settings.
