It's a sorry state of affairs when scum like this are released for no other reason than they need the space, presumably for some other piece of sub human slime. Why don't we increase jail space by outsourcing the problem? It would dramatically cut costs and put the frighteners on this kind of savage scum. no downside as far as I can tell.

It really does make one wonder who actually makes the decisions to release back into the society scum that judges have actually decided should be excluded for a certain time. Ministry of Justice? Home Office? dont think so - how about the predominantly lefty brigade of prison governors (holders of degrees in social studies I bet you). These decisions should go back to the trial judge for approval, or hopefully, refusal. These savages that commit offences of gross violence to others should do their time in full.
Time for a change of Government, this lot have lost the plot.
I have a plan for reducing the overcrowding problem in our prisons and it could be done without building new ones.

All that would be necessary would be for the current ones to be refitted so that one prisoner would occupy one cell. The space presently taken up by recreation facilities and dining rooms would be used to allow this to happen. There would be no need for extra plumbing as a bucket and a loo roll could be provided. No prisoner association would be permitted, thus ridding the current regime of certain prisoners being in charge of 'their wing' of the prison. The cell doors would be locked, only being opened to allow the exchange of buckets each day, though I am not sure I would want the prison officers to have to handle these.....I will have to give that point a little more thought.

With all the extra room provided under my plan the government could actually say 'if you do the crime you do the time' and be able to mean it.

What about books and radios etc I hear the yogurt knitters cry....what about rehabilitation they would shout........well, after being locked up 24/7 in my prisons I don't think there would be many takers for a revisit.

Any any money saved by not providing the prisoners with privileges only the law-abiding citizens have a claim on could be given to those who in the winter have to decide between heating and eating..........simples
For once I tend to agree, this country does not take violent crime seriously, it's far more interested in property/money related crime IMO.
Brilliant I.Don No! Long overdue. It would take a brave government to do it, and I don't see this lot doing it (or the last lot!)
Jason...

or any other lot, unfortunately.

I applaud your contribution on the creative side I.Don.no and I certainly would, in Geezer Britain, go with that but in the past I have often championed the holy grail of penal reform for UK but of course the usual suspects don't have the stomach for it. Essentially I'm saying that many other countries are far superior to us in the running of these facilities, eg Turkey, Thailand etc, so I propose we pay these countries to handle jail for us and pay them an agreed sum per man per year pro rata. It is known to cost around 40k per year per prisoner in UK, commensurate figures for Turkey for example are approximately 5k per year per prisoner. We therefore pay them 10k and double their income, they are delighted, we save 75% and criminal lowlife scum get to experience a proper jail and hopefully won't want to go back! Everyone's a winner!
How about a deserted island somewhere with absolutely no chance of escape where prisoners would have to look after themselves which would not even involve prison staff, & before the do good brigade start bleating about human rights, some of these bar stewards forgo their rights when they act in an anti civilized way in a civilized society.Ron.

Ron, respect!
Happens in the States too, eg Linsday Lohan , Paris Hilton... both served derisory time in the clink because of over crowding.
