this will be an apple computer, yes?

basically it means it can connect to a wireless internet connection as soon as you get it home.

to get on internet, you need:

- dialup modem, or
- broadband modem with cable, or
- broadband modem with wireless router to send wireless commection and thing in your computer to get this wireless connection

for the 3rd option, airport extreme is this last "thing" in your computer. for wireless internet you'd still need the wireless router and broadband though.

if you get broadband but aint fussed about wireless, it'll have an ethernet port for this. it'll probably also have a dialup modem if you only have dialup.

note: if you're looking at new iMac, it doesnt come with a dialup modem.

Thanks. so I'll need to get my broadband
providor (probably going to go for
Tiscali) to supply a wireless router
that is compatible with airport extreme
? How much are they roughly?
Thanks
Matt
You can get them for 50+ but you need to make sure you get one with an internal modem also, because some are simply a router.

If your getting Apple hardward I was just going to suggest going for an Apple AirPort Extreme base station but on further inspection I saw the price, don't bother unless your made of money.

Any on this page will do the trick

I have a linksys and I'm very happy with it.

the airport extreme conforms to a wireless standard called "WiFi". any router that follows this too will be compatible with the airport extreme feature.

That should do everything you need Matt.
