I was woken at 5am this morning and when I went to investigate I found a dying fox (he was having convulsions) on my landing. He must have got in whilst the back door was open.

My question is why would he go into someones house surely this is a very unusual thing to do?

I also have 3 cats and they didn't seem at all fazed.

I suppose shelter as it felt vulnerable to attack. Could you see any obvious injury or was it poisoned? Poison is bad as it effects cats/tortoise and other domestics that can free roam.

No obvious injury, he was in a bad state though & full of fleas (I have sprayed the whole house) There was no blood or foaming at the mouth. It seems odd to seek shelter in a house with 3 cats although they obviously completely ignored him
Foxes are known to die from shock at contact with humans
curiosity and opportunity would pull a fox into the house
not finding a way out and the inescapable smell of human
would send it into a fit of shock.
