My avatar is a temporary one. It serves two purposes:
(a) to remind the faithful that this is Holy Week.
(b) to get up the noses of the atheists.
in lancashire we say: has your budgie died?
Well, we used to say it, but when i've used the expression in recent years to younger colleagues, they haven't the foggiest idea what I'm on about.
Surely the best one for someone's flies being undone, is 'You've got egg on yer chin!'
It worked with my 7 year old a few weeks ago.
If anyone said to me that my flies were undone, I always replied with ' a dead bird never falls out of the nest'
i remember "egg on your chin". The effect was to make the addressee look down, at which point it was hoped that the offending mistake might be noticed and subtly rectified.
down sauf we say Half mast.
you southerners say half marst, not half mast
lol never heard this at all, i would say 'your trousers are too short'
Never heard of this until now! I've heard 'his trousers are at half mast'....and the only other saying i've heard is 'charlie's died' when your underskirt was showing..
sorry nightmare, you are correct of course!
In Cheshire it was 'when did your cat die?'
I have no idea why it was a cat rather than any other pet or family member that would lead to the flag / trousers being at half mast.
