Book (fiction) featuring time elapse in a house

I read a paperback around 20 years ago that featured a hidden house through woods/jungle? One scene described a man with his dog, that went into a time elapse narrative that described how everything around him statred to decay. The dog decomposing, the furniture slowly falling apart etc. Does any one know who's the author and book? I belive the cover had a house pictured growing into the landscape? Cant remember exact details, well it has been 20 years since.
