Distalgesic/o-proxamol - FAO SQAD

What is the nearest painkiller to the above? These really suited me, but of course you can't get them anymore - can't take cocodamol, tramadol or df118's they make my sick, paracetamol not strong enough - is there an alternative to distalgesics?

I am not sure for what pain you are needing the analgesics, but the one that springs to mind is Ibuprofen 400mgms.

have you tried cosolpadol, my OH used to have distalgesics and found these very good when doctor prescribed at 30/500

Sqad -Mostly arthritic, in shoulders, wakes me up at night, terrible in the morning but eases off during the day. Have tried 400mgms of Ibuprofen, but didn't do much.

Why did they take these off the market ?

I got on very well with them too...I don't think they had codeine in them which was great for me as it makes me sick as a dog.

Wish they'd bring them back.

I'd like to know what's happened to Propain, too - it's the painkiller which works best for me, and we can't get it anywhere at the moment.

I agree ladyalex, they were brilliant. I've never found anything else as effective.

They took them off the market, apparently, because some silly beggars were killing themselves with them, my doctor told me - but you can kill yourself with paracetamol and many others, that's why apparently you can only by two boxes of ibuprofen at Tesco and other supermarkets.

Boxtops - looking for something over the counter preferably, and propain as still available just found them on the net! You can still get Distalgesics on the net, but they are v expensive.

For extra pain relief take 400mg ibuprofen with a couple of paracetemol. Seems to work for me when necessary.

If DF118s are the same as I was prescribed in hospital in 1971 as one step down from morphine, then they are one strong tablet! I believe dihydrocodeine is the generic name, but that says a lot!

Your so right Mike - they are v strong, have no pain but feel terrible -yet my husband can take them ok with no side effects.Things affect people so differently. Anyway will try all suggestions to see if I can get a bit of respite from this arthritic pain. (Thanks all June).

I take 1 600mg Etodolac with two Solpadol 500mg`s for pain in my joints and muscles prescribed by my Oncologist.

I've seen the Propain on the net, yes - but they want three quid for postage on top of the full price for the medicine, and you can only buy one box at a time (one a month, on one site!) - so it would be a costly way of buying it!
