Wrong Yorkie. Pay accounts, and it depended on me whether you got cash to go out on a Friday night or you had to spend the weekend in barracks. It was a great feeling, as a humble SAC, to have SNCOs and even officers kissing your arse, because they knew that if they upset me I could seriously compromise their finances, albeit temporarily.
Me too - need to get dressed and off to work, not sitting here. ;-( - have good days, everyone.
Bet, started at Hereford then Valley then Neatishead before discharge. I remember Cosford quite well from my sporting days, especially when we beat them and I can also remember the Canberras at Wyton (I think Rory Underwood (the England rugby player was there when I visited Wyton)
bye noraq enjoy your day x
Well, well Mike - I was Gen Office started as Clerk Sec then became a P&A Clerk when they amalgamated Pay Accounts and Gen Office.
golly look at the time,, better get myself organised and off to hit that silly ball again,, have a good day everyone xxx
I must have left before then (1972). Clerk secs were one step below clerk accts, who were the top of the pond life. Of course at the time accounts were gradually being computerised, which meant we had less control over things.
Mike - I joined up in '72 and I think the amalgamation came in about '75 - we may have been branded pond life but the barstewards out in the hangars couldn't get by without the shineys (travel warrants, mileage claims, pay, etc)
Classic scenario from my RAF days.

Tuesday morning, phone call from Flt Sgt i/c airmen's mess.

Him: I've got one of my guys who has run out of money and has to pay a bill tomorrow, but doesn't get paid till Thursday. He's got a young baby and his wife is worried sick.

Me: Is he on stand down on Thursday?

Him: No.

Me: He is now, for admin purposes. Send him up this afternoon and I'll fix a casual pay parade with the boss.

Him: You're a star.

Lad comes up and gets paid two days early. Later that day, on leaving the mess after tea, two prime fillet steaks are quietly slipped into my hand. Wheels within wheels!
Morning all, just looked in Science but couldn't find your thread Noraq.
