A guy I know got his at the local council run gym. It was the nearest in the area anyway
Yep here its local council gym, and also DW sports xx
You'll probably find that it's the nearest gym run by your local council, I wasn't aware that hospitals have gyms these days, except for in-patients, but I could be wrong. I don't think you can use the referral at privately-run gyms.
Are you seriously telling me that my hard earned is paying for peoples gym subscriptions?
I hope this is for people recovering from operations and not just fat ba5tards.
Nope, he was a fat bar steward all right!!
Gym sessions can be prescribed for people only under certain conditions, CaS - it's all part of Prevention of Illness. This is an old link but explains it. http://uk.answers.yah...20081117121702AAga288

However given all the current cuts in funding, I don't know whether this is an initiative which might be affected in future. Helping people look after themselves is cost-effective in the long run...
Oh I felt the same BTW - he got in that state, let him pay to get out of it.
This happened to me in Shrewsbury and the referal form had almost all the local gyms listed to select whichnyou preferred.
I think that they arrange a few sessions rather than annual membership. I would hate to think my hard earned taxes are paying for peoples`s gym memberships. I suppose they think if someone has a few sessions they`ll join up and get fitter thus improving their health. The GP could just tell someone to get off their lazy backside and go for a walk as it`s cheaper but maybe people haven`t got the motivation and need a gym instructor to encourage them.
In a Victor Meldrew voice 'I don't bloodywell believe it'
Hey count, I spotted your Treadmill comment in the tattoo thread (I'd have moved it to here if it were possible!)
True !
Our hospital has a gym and a therapy pool .You can only be referred by a GP as my brother was after knee replacement for NHS treatment ,physio ,treadmill etc .
Others can use it ( staff and public) but have to pay .
Oooh i read wrong, what i meant is that NHS workers get a discount....sorry xxx

i have a degenerative spine condition and am looking into whether some of the weight bearing machines, contraptions and treatments or whatever will help the pain and stop it getting worse and prevent me ending up in a wheelchair...
