I have just applied online for a personal loan with the Halifax but at the end of the application it says I have been unsuccessful.
If I apply with any other banks will I also be turned down?

Impossible to tell.
Appying for loads of loans won't look good on your credit report, so if there is a problem there, you could well be making it worse.
It depends on the bank as they all have different acceptance criteria. Ring the Halifax in the morning and they should tell you why you were declined. Most popular reasons are, adverse info, can't make repayments/ already over committed, high number of searches on credit report. You may even be declined if you have no credit history because they will have no way of assessing how reliable you are.
yelenots, can I suggest that you pay a couple of quid and run a credit reference agency report on yourself, someone like Experian? That will tell you if you have any negatives on the credit report for you, which the companies use when rating any applications - and if it's wrong, you can apply to have it corrected.
Some companies however are being a lot more canny now, they will turn down applications if they think that the repayments might cause you to overreach your budget.
Worth having the check done anyway - some years ago mine had wrong information which was affecting my credit rating.
