I used to keep the Wango variety of the greenwing in a tube shaft till it was 9 months old. Then I fed it library books for 3 decades until it said 'Pinky'
The best person to talk to is Rebecca Taylor at Becks Bird Barn. She's extremely knowledgeable, honest and kind, and she's at [email protected] or Tel 01952 541244
I have owned several green winged, scarlets, and blue and golds. They are highly intelligent, a bit messy, but they are a great companion for anyone, anywhere. They can get very loud sometimes, but on the whole, you cant ask for a better pet. Just be sure to clip thier wings, be careful clipping thier beak, and nails. They tend to bleed alot, and you can lose a bird very quickly. They love all kinds of veggies, and fruits & cheese. They must have the grain to keep their crawel clean. To groom them, all you need to do is get a spray bottle of water, and wet them down. They like dialy showers in the tub.
Yes, they are very loud. They have an extremely long life span, and have very human personalities and feelings, so it is a lifelong commitment. A roomy cage is important but even more so, a very good playstand or play area, and lots of toys. So it is also very expensive. They are wonderful pets but I would say do a lot of research before you decide. Bird Talk magazine is awesome. www.upatsix.com
