carpet beetles

Any advice on carpet beetles? I hoover regularly and patches have appeared in the edge of the carpet in every room up and down. I'm also clearing up about 100 of the beetles a day on the window sills at the moment although cannot see how they get up there. Have never had them before. I'm concerned about using fly spray as we have tropical fish.
