Our shower cord has snapped, leaving a short cord. How easy is it to fit a new cord? Where would I buy one? Would I need an electrician to fit a new cord?

You should be able to unscrew the ceiling rose. The cord should then be ablemto be untied or may have a toggle on the end which fits through a loop of plastic. Switch the circuit off first at the consumer unit ( fuse board) assuming you have the switch type and not the old plug in fuse box.
you get cord from somewhere like wikos
As above answers but be prepared as it can be a fiddle to do - easiest way is DON'I cut the new cord or it will fray

Poke through with a sewing needle and carefully hold while you tie two or three tight knots then pull gently to lock in place - trim any excess - done
