Just changed to BT Voyager 205 ADSL Router, doesn't work all the time

I recently changed from the BT Voyager 100 to the Voyager 205 so to connect another computer, however, when I installed the router it only works some of the time, disconnecting then reconnecting.  Is it due to improper installation, since I had to install the driver directly and some components may not be installed such as the ethernet component.  Is there anything I can do, or somewhere I can get the proper installation file(s).  Thank you in advance.

My advice would be to use the Ethernet cable to connect your PC to the 205. If you need to connect more than 1 device to the 205, put a router (wireless if you like) between them. This method is driverless as far as the modem is concerned.

I've still got the little sticker over the USB port on my 205, but I do remember that there is quite a specific order in which you have to install and connect stuff. If it was done wrong, then I suspect you'll have to remove all cables and software, then do it again. However, I also suspect that it wouldn't work at all rather than intermittently.

It could also be the line, but if it was fine before, it should still be fine.

I strongly suggest you investigate connecting via Ethernet. It's most likely that you've already got the correct port on your computer, but if not, you'll need a PCI ethernet card for a desktop (around 10) or a pcmcia ethernet card for a laptop (around 20).

The Ethernet is working the same way.  Both the ethernet and the USB are in use (connecting two computers).  Is there somewhere I could get individual drivers for the two components that are left unknown on the system?

Oops, sorry. Are there 2 unknown devices on both computers or just on the one connected by USB? The ehternet connected computer just uses the router/modem as if it were accessing a local area network so shouldn't have any unknown devices in the Device Manager related to the modem. If you go to one of the unknown devices in the Device Manager and in its Properties, try to update the driver, letting it look on the Web (if you're on XP).

According to this page, it is a good idea to go to device manager and on the Power Management tab of each of your USB Root Hubs listed, uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power" box. This might solve your problem.

Failing everything, try to uninstall all the 205 software and reinstall from scratch. It might be worth deleting any folder related to this install from your Program Files folder just in case there's any Voyager 100 software still floating around.

Also, update your modems firmware to v1.8 from this page. Let us know what happens.
