a week would be sufficient under most contracts.
as you have only worked there for less than 3 months then one weeks notice should do, you state that certain pages are missing from your contract so therefore your employer has no redress in an employment tribunal.( problem spelling at this time of day )
Why not go to your boss and say "I am giving notice to terminate my employment" which will elicit the reply "the notice period is X weeks"

thanks for the quick answers. i know as soon as i give my notice they'll treat me really badly. does anyone know if they insist i do 4 weeks and if i dont go in can they hold back my wages owed. obviously i dont mind about the days i dont work
1 week is the statutory minimum notice for employees of between 1 month and 2 years continuous service. Contractually the notice period may be greater even if the term is "missing" from your copy of the contract.

The general (although by no means universal) rule is that if you ask your employer if you can leave before your notice is up, you should not expect to get paid for the part of your notice you don't serve. On the other hand, if your employer asks you to leave early, they would have to pay you for the full notice period.
Also meant to say that all other monies owed to you must be paid.
there is no legal minumim, it's all down to what was agreed initially in your contract of employement. Even then it's a civil issue.
