It's a well paid job. but why is it that people look down on this type of job?

Going back to the 50s I remember there were public toilets outside Eastham Town hall, you had to go down about 10 steps to them. The lady attendant there kept them immaculate. there were 4 cubicles each with a big oak door and she kept them gleaming. All the brass fittings and plaque's shon. On the shelf she had fresh flowers every day. She cleaned the seat before you entered & always had change to put a penny in the box. She sat in a little room with a window & had a white lace curtain. The tiles from floor to ceiling you could see your face in. You could have a wash & brush up for 4d (old money) No smells, just a faint odour of bleach.

Anyone else remember these establishments?

I do, Jem. Where I live they got replaced by some ultra-modern, single pod-type conveniences. One day my sister was using one and the door opened by itself and exposed her to the street, sitting on the throne with her knickers round her ankles.

I remember loos like that Jem. The lady attendant actually escorted you to the loo, took your money from you and inserted it in the door, then when the door opened she checked the loo and loo roll before she let you walk in.
