water bottle pollution

Can anybody work out how much damage is being done by dumping empty plastic water bottles ???? 20 years ago there was no such thing as plastic water bottles.Considering that the water contained in them has no benefit over tap water I think the "bottle water brigade" should be ashamed of themselves.

As long as the bottle makes it into the trash and the trash to a recycling centre then the damage is minimal.  Most old plastic water bottles are recycled into "useful" products.  For example, if you own a fleece (or coat with fluffy lining) chances are it is made of used plastic water bottles.

But what about all the diesel fumes from the delivery trucks. All for tap water, if you bought that stuff they had to take off the market. (for being tap water).
