all help would be gratefully received. My partner's s pulse rate seems to vary a great deal , yesterday 66 beats per min , today 132 beats per min. This seems to be of concern to the GP.

He had been on atenonol for angina , for 20 years and this was stopped 2 weeks ago by the GP.He takes riminyl for A lzheimers at the moment ,and no other medication.Don 't understand what is happening , he is in a care home and therefore I do not get to see the doc on his visits. All advice most welcome , am a bit worried , confused and a lot frightened. He is 90 years young and very mobile. The sincerest of thanks Brenda.

brenda....he needs an ECG to determine what is happening to account for this.....the first thing that comes to mind is has he got a heart block ( electrical not blood vessel) and this seems from what you say likely and this could be due to coronary artery disease. Also is his pulse regular or irregular....if irregular, regularly irregular or irregularly irregular.

So many questions.....so few answers........he needs an ECG and Ultrasound.
My dad had something very similar. He is 80. He as a condition called Atrial Fibrillation and this is where his heat beats randomly and can vary quite dramatically. He takes a table once a day and he is fine.
I would have though the doctor would have recoginsed the symptoms and sent him for a ECG.Have another word with your doctor. Hope this helps and it gets sorted soon.

Sorry a tech hitch -- me !!!!!

I took my partner to the GP, because his hands were extremely cold , painfully so. The Gp was was not able to visit the care hom e that day, and asked if I would take him to the surgery.Did that and the atenonol was stopped by the Gp . So told the care home and they checked with the surgery.that what I had reported was true.Since then the heart beat seems to be erratic. My partner has , had some blood tests taken which seem to indicate that he is anaemic also..So have to go back this FRiday for further B tests .Am very uncertain what I should be asking.
