hi, one of my friends recently got married, it was on a Sunday, to me this seems perfectly normal....

but lots of people were being quite unkind and saying they had only done it on a Sunday rather than a Saturday (which apparently is the "proper day to get married")as its cheaper and they are cheepscates!!

is it really that unusual to marry on a Sunday?

When we suggested to the catholic priest that did our wedding, that we would like a Sunday, he practically burst into tears. Think it must have been a tradition for the clergy to put their feet up after morning services. And it was a long time ago. Nowadays people get married in any fashion and on any day that suits the participants and rightly too. I have never heard of a venue doing a cheaper bash just because it's a Sunday and think those who accepted invitations and then said this are very ungracious.
Arent some people appalling!! How rude.

According to http://www.oldsuperstitions.com/wedding.html
Saturday isnt a very lucky day to be married anyway......
Monday for wealth,
Tuesday for health
Wednesday best day of all
Thursday for curses
Friday for crosses/losses
Saturday no luck at all

I have heard more people saying Saturday isnt an option because its booked up so far in advance, but why that is any of the guests' business is beyond me!

Hope you had a good time :o)
people usually get married on saturdays because most people can get the day off or dont work weekends.

we got married on a thursday because flights to our honeymoon went on a friday lol
My cousins son got married on a Sunday a couple of months ago. I don't see anything wrong with it. Often a venue is booked up for a couple of years in advance for Saturdays, so having a wedding on a different day means you can get the venue you want at an earlier date.
I got married on a Friday and my friend got married on a Monday - there are no hard and fast rules, those as meltoadhall says it is often easier for guests to attend at a weekend without having to take time off work.

Btw it used to be common to be married on Christmas Day, at least in Victorian times. I can't see that being very popular with guests now!

thanks for everyone's input, you helped me confirm that some people are just miseryguts and will use any excuse to put others down, seems a sad fact of life,

the wedding went well and they had a great queen tribute band playing in the eve so that's all that matters really.
I'm getting married on a Sunday next year. Part of the reason we chose that day is because the venue is cheaper. Weddings are bl00dy expensive, so it helps to save money wherever possible! I can't imagine any of my guests calling us cheapskates for it though, think thats very unkind.
As for your question, I think it's becoming more and more popular to get married on a Sunday. In my fiances circle there are at least 3 sunday weddings coming up in the next year.
along with the other replies, I do not see that it matters what day you chose to be married. It is a personal day and should be done to suit the couple getting married. we are planning a wedding and it is to be on Friday 13th. I know we are going to get a lot of flack but it is a lucky day in our house, my son and daughter were born on friday 13th. It is certainly not any cheaper to get married that day. (I only wish it were)
"Mondays for Wealth"!

I can confirm that just isn't true ;o(
If you're Jewish, Sunday is THE day to get married.
Good for them I say. If me and mine get married we will probably do it on a Friday, so that it is cheaper! Those who complain are free not to come!

Weddings should be happy occassions on what ever day they happen, and spending a lot on a wedding doesn't mean it will last! My first wedding was done properly as my parents wanted it done and they were still paying for it after I was divorced.
Bet you the people complaining were those who had to go to work on Monday. In reality they were moaning 'cos they couldn't get hammered at the evening do!
Well I work for a company who photograph weddings so long as they are on a Sunday. So hopefully more people will treat it as a normal day.
