If you have a bowl of items of different sizes and you shake the bowl, the largest items rise to the top. Why is this?

Because the gaps that you make when agitating the contents are more easily filled by the smaller items, thus increasing the proportion of these smaller items in the lower layers.

Thank you - obvious when you know the answer!

Can I stop shaking my bowl of Alpen now?

P.S. if you shake hard enough some raisins also end up on floor.

PPS The experiment doesn't work so well with milk added.

hello Marge, long time no type

hi kags :-) Haven't seen you around in a while now! I feel this can't happen if we are going to retain a healthy doctor-client relationship :-) There me posting my picture as well, and you ran away! Guess you been a busy gal.

Been moving to Landan of late, stressed out. Could use your wise advice n stuff.

Talk later. Don't run out on me :-)

ok - I missed that picture, probably because I don't go near CB any more. I did Landan in my 20s, I was making my way up North from Devon to Yorkshire - are you doing it in reverse? Don't let it get you stressed, it's a great place to be with the right attitude. Just so long as you don't want to buy a house or anything. Hmmm, so where can we have our consultations??

Maybe I crossed your path before then :-) I did it once before, but misguidedly returned to bonny (?) Scotland.

The consultation in this kind of case is normally quite extensive, even for a practice such as troy/marge. If you could contact us at

we would be happy to oblige.
