OH has a Nokia 3310 (I know ark model) he has "Done something to it" When he dials he cannot hear the pips (his words) or the dialling tone. I don't know if it rings out when he is called as he calls me as he is in Spain and only switches it on when he is ready to call me. I have read the manual and there is no reference to silent mode. Has anyone any idea what he could have done and what to do to solve it?

A dialling tone on a mobile??? Is there one?

The keypad tones (= 'pips'?) can probably be set to silent (or to one of 3 different levels) on the 3310. On my (equally basic) Nokia, the route is this:
Press 'Menu'
Scroll down to 'Tones.
Press 'Select'
Scroll down to 'Keypad tones' (Mine shows 'Level 2' but I'm guessing that your OH's 3310 shows 'Off')
Press 'Select'
Scroll to required level.
Press 'OK'
Keep pressing 'Clear' to get back to the main display.

Thanks Chris, thats very helpful, I will email the instructions and see what he does. I see your point about dialling tone on a mobile! The thing is though he is very deafa nd wears 2 hearing aids and when he uses his phone he has a loop system that he plugs in to it so to be honest he may hear a dialling tone I don't know.
I can't phone him as he only uses his loop system when he is using it and probably wouldn't hear it ring anyway. Thanks again for your help, you have got me out of some holes on many times.
