Anyone used PCmover to go from XP to 7?

I am toying with the idea of upgrading my laptop from Windows XP to 7 - can't afford a new machine but might have enough money for the upgrade disc - but one downside would be having to re-install all the programs that I currently use.

On CNET http://tinyurl.com/y2lygg6 they mention PCmover http://tinyurl.com/yey6egs as cutting out all the hassle of needing to find old installation discs and license keys. Has anyone here used this utility, and was the transfer from XP to 7 successful for those programs that can run under both OS's?

And would someone please confirm that an XP installation disc isn't required when doing the upgrade - my laptop came with recovery discs only, no XP installation disc included.

Make sure your laptop can run Windows 7 before trying to upgrade it.

For example there may be no Windows 7 drivers for your laptop so some of the hardware components may not work after a W7 install.

If you have a laptop using XP now there is a good chance that it wont run Windows 7 unless you install the Starter edition which you cant get as it is for netbooks or tablet pcs and not avaiable to the general public . Your best solution would be to buy a new one which will already have Windows 7 installed and then transfer your stuff across by usb transfer cable from your old one VHG is right that given the age of your laptop no drivers would be available

What you are thinking of doing is not a good idea As VHG has stated there wont be any drivers to suit Windows 7 as XP doesn't have SATA drivers as they wern't around when it was written . The graphics card wont support Windows 7 either . If you must have Windows 7 then save up and buy a new one they are getting cheaper all of the time or try to get a late model CORE 2 DUO model that is running Vista and upgrade it . Your motherboard most likely wont support the ram needed to run it either.
