Apart from my mum I am the only person I know who gets pain (very infrequently) at the back of my tummy-button.
It feels like someone is standing behind me forcefully tugging an invisible thread through my body. I think that my tummy-button disappears further inwards at these times (but I could, of course, be imaging that).

What actually sits at the back of your navel ?
What is causing the pain (it's really quite uncomfortable) ?
Are my mum and I the only people in the world this affects ?

I think this could take a while.......:o(
can I recommend ibuprofen in the meantime?
Question Author
600mg every six hours......? :o)

It's more that I've never met 'anyone' else who gets this.........(Mrs jth thinks it's another of my imaginary ailments !)
I was just gonna mention the same as sara.. i've got a hernia aswell but it's not painful all of the time so they didn't bother to do anything with it.
I would err on the lines of some sort of hernia, I would get it checked out if its worrying you.

I've had this from being a child..........as has my mum.....

I can go years without an 'attack' but it makes it difficult to walk completely upright.

Very odd :o/
I get a similar thing but it's more like someone has gripped my belly button and is pulling it forward - away from me. It's horrible and I really don't like anything or anyone touching my belly button at all, possibly because of this.
I get it mildly sometimes and bizarrely it makes me feel like I need to burp to make it go away. No idea what causes it but I get IBS so have all sorts of funny tummy goings on!

Hoorah.......!!

It's reassuring to know that we're not the only two who appear to suffer from semi-independent navels...
I get it to jth. Not often but definitely get it!
Question Author
We're obviously a very select club.............:o)
I have IBS like bushbaby!! So I get weird pains all over that area. But I definitely know what you mean jth. It is almost as if something is attached to the back of the belly button to tightly!!

The Belly Button Club? Mmmmm
If you get pain jth then theres a problem. Pain is like a red warning light its there to tell us theres a problem.
Have you never had it checked out? Sounds like a hernia to me.

(Sqad will be here in the morning he'll be able to tell you)

jem
it could be something as simple as your waist bands being too tight
Jemisa I have had this for as long as I remember. I have never worried about it. I am 64 now. It goes off as quickly as it comes on and just leaves the area tender for a short time. Perhaps it is muscular.

Have just googled belly button pain and there are loads of articles and links!!!
