I am using Firefox. How do I delete the web addresses that appear when i type in e.g. www.a (brings up a selection of websites beginning with a)

Privacy
and then "Clear" the History.
I think it's the option below that, "Clear Saved Form Information", rather than the History. Click on where it says "Saved Form Information" and it brings up a box you can tick/untick to turn this feature on and off.
The saved form information is a way of the browser remembering your username and password for any sites that ask you to log in, such as ebay : when the page loads on that site, for example, the 2 fields asking for username and password are automatically populated to save you having to remember what either of them are.
Stick to plan A : clear the history.
