I only saw 2 episodes, so have no idea what was going on anyway.

Was quite predictable, but liked the ending.
I said it was the grandad about 3 weeks ago. Enjoyed the programme though
I thought the ending was weak, once it was obvious last week what had happened, I think the producers struggled to fill an hour this week.
It was very entertaining and I don't think I would have guessed the ending if I hadn't seen it suggested on here (by you I think knowabit!). Up till then I was assuming she was murdered or running away from an abuser.
I saw the first episode. and tonight I watched the last one. Reckon I saved myself a few weeks there.

I did really enjoy the series. Hopefully ITV will have some more dramas that have us all gripped and talking about them!
Can`t be doing with spooky stuff like that, scares the sh!t outta me!
I thought the ending was an anti climax - very poor. I thought the house itself, held a darker side and perhaps led Alice into the water, but no ! there had to be shagging involved - yawn..(:0(
On reflection Den I agree. So she spent 40 years hanging about the house causing stress just so everyone knew why she was running. Still didn't explain how she drowned or why she would have run into the lake. Also the grandad and little Olive were so close behind her they'd have heard a splash or seen ripples.
Best drama I've seen for ages, kept me guessing to the end and 5 episodes was just long enough to keep up the tension and not get boring, unlike the beebs outcasts
Makes me glad I didn't watch it.
Thats right Prudie - and the family that lived at Marchlands in the 70's - what was that all about - Alice showed herself to the little girl, but that did nothing to solve the mystery. I think the writers can't think of a decent ending - so lets go with Grandad shagging his neighbour - that'll do.
Yeah the 70s and Alex Kingston - women didn't wear denim dungarees every day throughout the 70s!!
that family were from 1987...not the 70s....

i think its was good, a bit slow as a whole and i liked the twists and links through the decades and it was a nice format - but a weak ending - the granddad didn't actually do anything to her...he didn't kill her, nor was he indirectly responsible....he could just as easily have been tinkering with a car and not noticed her run off...
and the woman...shouting at a child doesn't kill them...
and the grandmother hiding the fact - well i can understand why she did that - it wouldn't have helped at all for her to tell, and in fact would have caused a hell of a lot more trouble....she was damned if she did damned if she didnt...i guess she figured it was the lesser of 2 evils...

i expected a few more sinister twists...like the 2010 grandmother, being a bit more psycho, and the ghost blaming someone...
of course it was joko, the 80s. My dungaree comment still stands though. I did enjoy it and it's not often I follow a drama but agree I thought the explanation would be far more sinister.
i agree on the dungarees...clearly the costume designer has been watching dexys midnight runners videos haha
Only watched the final episode of Marchlands last night. Was expecting a much better
ending after all the build-up!
Am still a tad confused as I watched them out of order owing to the fact that I have to download them from the net and missed no. 4. In the 1st episode didn't Alice's family know that she had drowned, they must have when they buried her, but anne reid at the end by the pond, said Ah now I know (or something like that)
