Hiya,

Just had a sniff of a bottle of red, I think it smells a bit wrong and tastes a bit funny, (it's my mums and she last had a swig of it saturday week ago). Snags is making a spag bol and we want to add the wine but not sure, I reckon it'll be ok as it's going to be cooked... What do you think?

Cheers!

yes, you're now at the mercy of demon chefs... well, I don't think wine goes mouldy and kills you like last week's mince, but if it smells in the bottle it will probably smell in the food, so you might want to ditch it. You've probably consumed it one way or the other by now anyway. Anyway, greetings from earthquake country and I hope you mend quickly.

Earthquake country? Where've you jetted off to now then?
Phew, I'm glad you posted ... that means the Snag Bol (sic) didn't kill you.

Ha! Nah, it was lush... cat pate was a bit hairy though.
The usual rule is, if you wouldn't drink it, (because it tastes off, not because you don't like it!) then don't use it for cooking.
New Zealand. Apparently I had cousins I didn't know about who were in the middle of Christchurch when the quake hit, but survived unscathed. I wonder if any other relatives are dicing with death anywhere that I should be worrying about? Apart from the ones using mouldy old wine in their pasta, of course.
