Not sure if this is right place for this but what would you use to clean the ceramic plates on GHD hair straighteners?

GHD's ... expensive, right?

Despite what you'll hear, use the proper stuff ... http://www.google.co....UoBA&biw=1152&bih=554

Ah Naz, I feel a bit bad. I saw I had an answer from you and prepared myself for something along the lines of 'dunk them in hot soapy water and make sure they are plugged in and turned on at the time'. (although you would have thought of something far more witty than that.)

But yes, expensive is one word. Thanks for the link! I
Using solvent on them (nail varnish remover etc) ... NOT GOOD

Scrubbing them with a scourer ... NOT GOOD

A decent hairdresser's supplies place should furnish you with the correct cleaning spray.

I was trying to think of things around the house I might be able to use but like you said, they are fairly pricey and I don't want to ruin them.

I've just remember I have a Sally trade card so I should be able to get a bargain on some cleaning spray for them.
There's only one thing in that link that's for cleaning straighteners and the site domain has expired :(
Milly - I've used very mild toner to clean mine (make sure they are cold first).
Grrr, . sorry.

eBay item number: 320621937397 ... from the U.S., and not cheap, but the right stuff.
I clean my straightener plates with Asda unperfumed baby wipes - that keeps them nice & clean. Doesn't seem to do them any harm.
Question Author
I did notice the link had expired but figured I could probably find something similar in Sally maybe. I don't use Ebay, for some reason I don't trust it.

Do you mean facial toner Karen?
Question Author
I thought about baby wipes but figured they would have some sort of oily residue on them?
BTW, mine are Babyliss Pro230 - they're excellent.
Hi Milly, when my straighteners are cold, I wipe the plates over with the baby wipes, then dry with a tissue. Not at all oily & absolutely fine! ;o}
Question Author
I've heard Babyliss ones are good Smudge. Afraid I'm a victim of the GHD generation. I've tried lots of others and they just don't seem to have the same effect as GHD's. I'll give the babywipes a go, if they're good enough for a babies bum I'm sure they won't do my straighteners any harm. :o)
Facial toner Milly, yes. It was the only thing I could think would be mild enough but still give them a bit of a clean without leaving any kind of residue - it seems to do the trick.
Just to say that i read the heat itself kills off any germs! But i think u prob mean actual stuck on dirt mabye xxx
